Where Would You Make The Cuts?

Voters spoke and rejected the $15.39 million town and $31.40 million school budgets at yesterday's referendum.

The overall budget represented a proposed increase in current spending of 1.28 percent with an estimated increase in the current mill rate of .49 mills.

The Board of Finance met immediately after the results were announced and voted to decrease the proposed town budget by $175,000 and the school budget by $49,000.

The finance board left the particulars of where items should be cut up to the Board of Selectmen. State statutes prevent the finance board from cutting individual line items from the school budget; they can only direct the school board to cut an overall amount, in this case $49,000.

Where would you make $224,000 in cuts?

For the 2,567 voters (out of 9,207 registered) who came out to vote, they witnessed this unidentified truck and large "Vote No" sign at town hall.
