Art to Benefit A Place Called Hope

Nationally recognized Clinton artist, Jan Blencowe, will be exhibiting one of a
kind monoprints celebrating Connecticut's
Wildlife at the Small Salon Great Gifts Show at Six Summit Gallery, 6 Summit Street,
Ivoryton, November 15, 2013 through February 15th, 2014, an opening reception
is planned for Friday November 15th, 6-9pm. Each monoprint represents a real
encounter Blencowe has had with wildlife in Connecticut, with a particular focus on birds.  The complex process of printing, stamping and
painting on a Gelli plate is used to construct the images and includes using
natural elements like leaves, twigs and moss. The artwork has been framed to
museum standard by Shoreline Frames in Westbrook with Eco-Care frames
constructed of wood harvested from managed forests and finished with organic,
warter-based stains.  Blencowe will be
donating a portion of all sales to A Place Called Hope, a Rehabilitation and Education
Center for Birds of Prey,
located in Killingworth. APCH's goal is to heal injured, orphaned, or ill birds
and return them to the wild where they belong. A Place Called Hope is a 501 c 3
non profit organization run entirely by volunteers along with donations of time,
supplies and money from their supporters. Blencowe has attended several APCH
programs and sketched their raptors on the spot with fountain pen and watercolor.
Those sketches of  Zen, a barred owl, and
Hobgoblin, a barn owl became the basis for two of the monoprints in the exhibit.
Representatives of A Place Called Hope will be at the opening reception with
some their feathered ambassadors giving guests a change to see the birds up
close.

Nature is one of the urgent
and inspiring themes of today. It is my passion to encourage conservation and
preservation through art. ~ Jan Blencowe
