Good for them. So they make ridiculous amounts of money. So what. Apart from making this info aRead More "news item" *cough*, the only reason I can see to make this info public here on Patch is to foment some kind of class warfare nonsense. Come on, Gary. Surely you can do better than this.

I do not think he was mentally ill at all. Maybe some of it was depression (and I do understandRead More that) but we all should have a choice; not to end up drooling, veggie minded, etc. We should be able to choose our own way of going. Yes, many Christians would say we'll go straight to hell if we commit suicide, but if one feels that they have had the life they wanted and feel they've accomplished as much as they CHOOSE to, then fine...let them go. I commend this man.
William Wilkin April 18, 2014 at 03:30 pm
I agree with Mr. Banks that the overly-aggressive medical treatments at the end of life can amountRead More to becoming pathetic if not genuine torture. I hope I continue to chop wood and breathe deep until my last day, I personally do not want to become pathetic and always assume that when that seems to be all that is left, I will do the same. I hope that is after I am 100 years old, of course.
Fairfield CT April 18, 2014 at 08:19 pm
It's understandable to want to die on your own terms but suicide can always and is somewhat always aRead More bit selfish. There is Hospice for people who are terminally ill that want to die with dignity in their own home on their terms. He wasn't physically ill. He wanted to cash his chips in while he was well. Typically people who plan suicides like this start giving their belongings away. He made sure his documents were in order. I still feel sorry for the people who had to walk in on him seeing him dead like that. It's not easy, no matter how he wanted it. It is also sad for the friends who probably wonder if there was something they could have done to save him. He left a straightforward note and maybe to his friends that is enough, but probably not to all. He seemed to have lost the desire to live a little longer at least until he started to get ill. He could have traveled, etc. I would be surprised if he didn't have depression. People don't typically commit suicide if they're not depressed, or manic if they're bipolar.

I'd love to see a study on the effect of compulsive couponing, not on the person involved but onRead More prices. Coupons are an expense for the manufacturer and the greater their expense ratio, the higher the price of the product. That would mean that the more people who are pathological (or maybe 'addicted' would be a better word) couponers---and I'd call someone like the subject just that---the higher the price of the product would need to be.

We need bomb-sniffing police dogs or military dogs. We also need to make the FBI accountable forRead More their failure to follow up on Russian warnings that Tamerlan Tsarnaeyev was being radicalized. The real jihadist in the family was the Tsarnaeyev's brothers' mother. The Russians knew that but didn't send the video proving it to the FBI. Even so, they told the FBI enough that they should have been on their trail, and the FBI blew it. And why weren't they on top of the former Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan who shot to death three non-Jews in an anti-semitic attempt to kill Jews in Overland Park? Why do we allow so much surveillance of citizens when the results are so disappointing? It's not like the FBI is getting the job done. They miss a lot of really big, obvious targets.

For the beach visitors who don't want to pay for parking?
Gus R. Horvath April 16, 2014 at 07:31 pm
Mick. Yes. They have been parking on the entry road since I have been in Madison some 49 years.
Jay April 17, 2014 at 12:28 pm
actually no - no one has parked on the entry road when the park is open-they are there only beforeRead More the park opens to walk. No on parks out near the post road to use the beach - it is almost a mile walk.. This is another example of state waste of money . Rebuilding the west bath rooms is another - there was no real reason to have demolished the ones damaged in the storm or remove a major section of the relatively new boardwalk and building a " nature center" zoo at Meigs is a waste - we do not need a another zoo. You all realize the park is only used to a significant degree for four months a year? Once school starts in late august user rates drop off to a point in late October less than a hundred people visit a day. The "nature trail" is another joke - .
