I'll See You At The Drive-In

This weekend I turned 33.

The start to my latest trip around the sun was kicked off not only by the Super Moon, but with a trip to the Mansfield Drive-In located in Mansfield, CT.

If you have never been to a Drive-In Movie, you're missing out. I've had the chance of seeing a few movies this way, not only here in CT but out in Las Vegas when I was living in the desert. And Mansfield gets gold stars across the board. Great screen visibilty, great projection, plenty of room for tons of vehicles, and even the bathrooms were clean. Trough style urinals made for a quick moving line for the men's room, but the ladies still had a bit of a wait since there is only one rest room per gender on the property.

The setup is a double feature starting at 9 pm. It was to be This Is Not The End and The Hangover 3 for us. With the drive-in you can bring all the snacks and food you want or they have a well stocked snack bar, you can bring lawn chairs and crank your radio (the sound for the movies are broadcast on fm stations), or you can recline in your seats, or if you are creative Audi TT owners, pop open your trunk and pack it with pillows creating a sweet little love seat.

I won't give spoiler ridden, long winded reviews - I'll just get right to the point.

This Is Not End was funny and the novelty of seeing it with the night sky around the giant screen made it better than it was. And there was far too little Craig Robinson. But to be fair I think he should be in everything.

As for The Hangover 3, well, we left halfway through. I only remember laughing once sitting there. Most of the jokes were forced and the creative team should have just Killed Doug off because, well, he's barely in the movie just like the first two go rounds. This one just didn't have any funny.

So, if you are looking for something different to do, I suggest finding your way to a Drive-In movie Theatre like the one in Mansfield. You won't have the added visual of the Super Moon looming over your screen, but it is a fantastic way to see a movie and I wonder why there aren't more of these still around.

There are two others in the state and I have included links to all three below.
