Clinton's All-Stars

Clinton is hosting the Junior Boys baseball District 9 13/14 year old tournament. Clinton's team plays Saturday at the Indian River Recreational Complex.

While Major League Baseball was having their All-Star game and Home Run Derby this week, Clinton’s Harry Swaun Little League was in the midst of all-star happenings of their own.

The all-star excitement will continue this week-end with Clinton hosting the Junior Boys baseball District 9 13/14 year old tournament. The tournament will begin on Thursday July 14 with the first game at 5:30pm and running through Monday, July 18.

Clinton’s team will begin play on Saturday, July 16 at 1pm at the Indian River Recreational Complex off Route 81.

Clinton’s Harry Swaun Little League is in District 9, which covers towns from Guilford to Old Saybrook and Middletown over to East Hampton. Clinton’s baseball and softball division All-Stars have been competing since the end of June. Coaches and players have all put in many hours of practice leading up to the tournaments.

Clinton was the host for the girls All-Star Softball tournament this year. The girl’s 9/10 year old tournament ran from June 29th through July 6th.  Clinton’s team finished pool play with a 2-2 record. Many an enthusiastic song and cheer could be heard from the dug-out of this very young minor team who scored ten runs in their last inning of pool play.

The girls 11/12 tournament ran from June 24th through June 30th. Clinton finished pool play with a 3-1 record, and a very exciting win over Madison who ultimately won the pool.  It was a great turnout for the tournament and many volunteers made it happen whether manning the concession stand or announcing the games.

The Boys 9/10 year old baseball team won their pool with an impressive 3-1 record. This dedicated group of boys played their hearts out in games in Killingworth and East Haddam. Unfortunately they lost to Guilford in the District 9 semi-final game in Middletown on a steamy hot Saturday.

The Boys 11/12 year old team went further than any Clinton team has been in over 10 years. Playing in Durham, this talented group won their pool with a 4-0 record and went into the quarterfinal bracket as No. 1 seed.  It was a tough loss for Clinton in Cromwell, losing to Killingworth in extra innings due to a walk off homerun. Several Clinton boys hit homeruns during the tournament and the pitching was outstanding.

So if you are looking for something to do on a beautiful summer day or evening, check out some baseball in Clinton. Volunteers are always welcome. This week-end’s tournament will be held at Indian River Thursday through Monday, with additional games at Eliot Field.
