Clinton Gymnast Qualifies For Junior Olympic Championships

Allison Chann, 17, a senior at , recently qualified to compete as a member of the gymnastic squad representing the northeast in the 2012 USA Gymnastics – Level 9 Eastern  Junior Olympic Championships. 

In order to qualify, Allison was among a select group of Connecticut level 9 gymnasts that competed at a regional competition April 22 in Andover, Mass., that included top gymnasts from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, Massachusetts,  Rhode Island and Connecticut.

The top six gymnasts at the regional meet will represent the northeast region in the Junior Olympic Championships in Landover, Md., from May 2-6. 

Allison placed first on floor and was second all-around to secure her spot on the team.

Allison has trained as a gymnast for 10 years under the direction of Earl Campbell, owner of in Clinton. 

The Junior Olympic Championships will be Allison’s final competition. She has decided to not pursue gymnastics in college in order to travel abroad and focus on her studies. Allison will attend Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., in the fall.
