Two Students Awarded Board of Selectmen Awards

Kaitlyn Elliot and Adam Lewis are the recipients of the 2012 Selectmen scholarship award given by and paid for by the selectmen.

The recognition of hard-working students is not only the job of the schools, but of the town, said First Selectman Willie Fritz, as he and others presented this year's Board of Selectmen Award to two students.

Kaitlyn Elliot (valedictorian) and Adam Lewis (ranked #7) are the town’s third recipients of the award.

Elliot and Lewis, both seniors, graduated with their class June 18. They join four other recipients: and Andrea Lee and Robert Mancini (2010).

Recipients of the award are chosen by the Morgan faculty. The five-member Board of Selectmen give of their own funds to provide for the cash prize. No town money is used for the award.

First Selectman Willie Fritz said he hopes the honor will continue to be awarded to one male and one female graduating senior at the school for years to come.

Recipients of the award are chosen for their overall achievements - in the community, volunteering outside school, scholastically, in extra-curricular activities and in sports.

Elliot will be heading to Northeastern University this fall; Lewis will be studying at Union College.

The plaque will hang in the showcase in The Morgan School's lobby.
