Joe Grippo Scores 500th Win

Grippo coaches the Morgan Huskies girls' basketball team

The girls' basketball team defeated the North Branford Thunderbirds on Thursday, marking Huskies' coach Joe Grippo's 500th win, the New Haven Register reported.

“Probably the thing I’m most proud of is that I got all of the wins here,” Grippo said in the article. “I wasn’t one of those coaches that went looking for a better team. We went through the tough times and went through the good times."

Grippo, according to the article, also coaches Morgan's girls' volleyball team, and has cinched more than 500 wins in volleyball.

“He does a great job with his kids,” North Branford coach Chris Webster said in the article. “They always play hard. They’re competitors. I like Joe. He’s a good guy and I wish him the best.”

And on another Clinton sports note of achievement, the Jared Eliot Middle School boys and girls basketball teams both finished the season Feb. 9 with perfect 14-0 records winning the shoreline championship. The boys' coach is Justin Esposito and the girls' coach is Ryan Cherry.

Congratulations Coach Grippo! All coaches should have the energy, dedication, and determination that you bring to the job. Beyond that, you push, demand and expect the very best of all your athletes (and students)--something that today's society is woefully lacking. I know both my sons (soccer players) admired and respected you tremendously from the moment they walked into Morgan.
