Felix And His Purpose Revealed

Have you seen Felix? Someone said they spotted him walking along East Main Street, another said he was working on his tan at the beach, and someone else said he was down at the marina having lunch.

Who, you ask is Felix?

Well, Felix is the product of the youth of Clinton, and more specifically, the student members of REACT at . REACT stands for “Reality Even Affects Clinton Teens.”

"Felix is an amorphous figure who is the physical representation of all the positive choices that Clinton kids make," said Kelley Edwards, co-coordinator of the who said students created him and named him.

In other words, Felix is the positive side of the news, not the negative.

He first made his debut at on April 22.  During the following week, Felix was spotted at the beach, the marina and the police station. All of these "spottings" were designed to attract attention and get the buzz going about Felix. 

Felix had his unveiling at the recent at the Morgan School.  Following a morning filled with cleanup around town, the Morgan students congregated in the auditorium to hear more about Felix and understand what the "62" on his shirt was all about.

You might hear that 38 percent of underage kids drink alcohol. But what about the 62 percent who do not?

"Felix represents the percentage of teens who are not abusing alcohol or drugs," said Edwards. "Felix looks at the positive things which are actually the most representative of the community."

Edwards, and her co-coordinator Kristin Brooks, are working hard to change the climate and perception in Clinton from what’s bad to what’s good.

"There are many good things kids do that need to be reinforced such as their work in community service, volunteering, good grades, no drinking and no drugs," said Edwards.
