WESTBROOK, Conn. – The Valley-Shore YMCA is inviting the public and local business owners to come meet Joe Connolly, Wall Street Journal Business News Correspondent for WCBS Newsradio 880, and learn ‘How to Grow Your Business in a Low-Growth Economy.”

This unique event on Oct. 4 will bring together one of the biggest names in business journalism and a dynamic group of local entrepreneurs for an honest discussion on what it takes to overcome the sputtering economic climate, find your customers -- and make money. All proceeds go toward facility improvement projects at the Y.

“The program will be about what’s working well for small business owners right now,” Connolly said. “It’s 90 minutes of solutions and ideas, not complaints, and you get to observe how entrepreneurs see new opportunities when others do not.”

After the forum will a question and answer session with Connolly and the panel, followed by time for networking with your peers. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

Discussion will be fast-paced and focused on positive solutions to overcoming current economic challenges, said Lisa LeMonte, of Guilford Savings Bank, a YMCA Board of Directors member who is co-chairing the event along with Candace Fuchs, also a board member.

“This is a terrific panel representing areas of expertise ranging from customer service, making a career change, business planning, and starting an online business,” LeMonte said.

In addition to sharing business acumen, the event is also a great chance to support the Y, Fuchs said. Each year, the Valley-Shore YMCA contributes more than $175,000 in scholarships and financial assistance to needy families in the area.

“The Valley-Shore YMCA is a community institution dedicated to healthy lifestyle inclusive to all,” Fuchs said. “It’s a great place to hang out for young and old alike.”
