Media messages surround us. Music especially has a large impact on our society - it is on the radio and TV, in movies and video games, at shopping malls and restaurants, and, most importantly, in the ears of our young people. Computers, smartphones and social networks have created an environment in which information is consumed and spread like wildfire. It has connected our world like never before but also brings a scary reality - young people are often over-exposed to harmful, inappropriate media messages and behaviors. Songs with questionable lyrics and risqué videos are shared in the click of a mouse and details on how to host pharm(ecutical) parties and play the “choking game” are a Google search away.
Join the communities of Branford, Chester, Clinton, Deep River, East Haven, Essex, Guilford, Haddam, Killingworth, Madison, Meriden, Middletown, Old Saybrook and Westbrook as we discuss with Marc Fomby, positive youth development and media literacy expert, how to communicate with youth and ways to empower young people to be active, literate media consumers.
