Board of Selectmen Public Hearing 8/22/2012

Charter Revision Committee's review of term limits for the Clinton Board of Selectmen

A topic that should be of interest to residents/tax payers of Clinton is the Charter Revision Committee’s review of term limits for the Clinton Board of Selectmen. Currently, the Charter Revision Committee is not in favor of increasing the term limit from 2 years to 4 years.

However
, some members of the Board of Selectmen are in favor of changing their term from 2 years to 4 years. From what I've observed, The Board of Selectmen take full advantage of the voting public’s complacency to accomplish their goals. Then the taxpayers’ foot the bill. They argue they can better serve us without the distraction of time-consuming campaign efforts every other year. But in reality, the 2-year term limit keeps them more accountable to the voting public. We need more accountability not less.

I don't think Clinton can afford 4-year spending terms by the Selectmen.
It has been my experience that when the public attends local government/town meetings and speaks, better decisions are made by our elected officials. Attend the Board of Selectmen’s Public Hearing 8/22/12 at 7:00 PM at the Andrews Memorial Town Hall, or stay home and let them decide for themselves.
