Update On The Budget Referendum Vote

Vote Is Next Week - Wednesday, May 11, 6am to 8pm

If you haven't heard much about the budget recently, it's because not a lot has gone on since the Board of Finance approved the proposed $46 million combined town and school budget for fiscal year '11-'12 in early April.

Tonight, May 4, there is a town meeting to officially send the proposed budget to a referendum vote. The meeting is in part a formality, going back to the rules of the Clinton Town Charter which dictates it. Tonight's meeting is not a public hearing - no questions can be taken about the budget and no changes can be made to it.

The vote on the budget will be held next week, Wednesday, May 11, from 6am to 8pm at Andrews Memorial Town Hall.  All registered voters, electors and others qualified to vote in a referendum in Clinton are encouraged to vote.

Absentee ballots will be available at the Town Clerk's office beginning May 5. Due to the short length of time between the town meeting and the referendum vote, absentee ballots cannot be mailed; they must be picked up in person in the town clerk's office. If so desired, the voter can mark their votes at that time and return the ballot back to the clerk's office. It will be held until May 11.

The budget referendum ballot has two questions on it:
