Clinton Parks & Recreation is offering a Dog Obedience Class

Obedience training is one of the best things you can do for your dog or puppy.  It opens a line of communication and is the basis for a happy partnership.

Beginning September 26th (Thursdays 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM) we will be running a 6 week “Beginners Obedience” class at the Indian River Complex, 201 Killingworth Turnpike, Clinton, CT.

Application Fee: $75.  (1/3 of the proceeds will be used to enhance and equip the Clinton Dog Park.)

The instructor is Karen Vecchiarino, the chairman of the Kenilworth Kennel Club in Guilford, who has 30 years of experience doing obedience work with dogs. Vecchiarino said she will be helping owners work with their dogs to understand several important commands.

"At the end of the 6 weeks, I hope to get you started to be able to work with your dog to give a command properly and have your dog carry it out," Vecchiarino said. "We will do companion dog commands like sit, down, stand, heel, and recall. It will be a great place to start with your young dog."

The Rules Below Apply to All Dogs & Handlers

1.  First Class – No Dogs (Just Handlers)

2.  No puppy under four months old.    

3.  No female dogs in season. 

4.  Handlers must be at least 14 years of age.

5.  One Handler & One Dog.  No other spectators.

6.  No aggressive dogs.

7.  Dogs must be licensed & immunizations up to date. 

8.  All dogs must be leashed.
