Town Budget Passes On Second Try

Vote of 1,381 to 1,111.

 

Voters had their say a second time and the results were different - the $14.89 million town budget for fiscal '12-'13 passed by a vote of 1,381 to 1,111, a difference of 270 votes.

The first vote on a $15 million town budget May 9 was defeated by a vote of 1,409 to 1,349, a difference of 60 votes.  The $31.3 million school budget passed by a vote of 1,462 to 1,292, a difference of 170 votes.

A total of 2,492 voters came out. The final numbers included votes by absentee and property owners.

The Board of Finance had reduced the town budget by $150,000.

With these cuts, the proposed mill rate is projected at 25.18.  The current mill rate is 24.92.
