Sengle Named GOP Chair

Also Co-Chairman of Carol Walter's campaign committee (TEAM WALTER 2011)

A message from the new Clinton Republican Town Commmittee Chairman:

In a dramatic turn of events, Phil Sengle has been elected the new Chairman of the Clinton Republican Town Committee.  In an August 18 meeting, Vincent Cimino, who is now an independent candidate for First Selectman, resigned the committee chairmanship.  Sengle was promptly elected Chairman and Bill Walter was named Vice Chairman.  The Walter selection was prompted by the resignation of Ray Apel as Vice Chairman.

Sengle is a newcomer to both Clinton and politics here.  Mr. Sengle moved to Clinton only two years ago, but promptly volunteered to serve.  In 2010 he was named to the Fair Rent Commission by the Board of Selectman and became its first Chairman.  Less than a year ago he joined the Republican Town Committee (RTC) and has since been named to an interim appointment as an Alternate on the Planning and Zoning Commission.  He is also a member of VFW Post 9918 and the Congregational Church of Clinton.  Mr. Sengle has also been very active in the Westbrook Elks Lodge supporting veterans’ projects.

Sengle grew up in Berlin, CT, but has lived with his wife Linda (who have two adult sons) in Pennsylvania and Texas.  In San Antonio he was President of a large Home Owners Association which has 900 homes in 8 separate communities.  From 1974 until 1999 they lived in Plainville, CT where Phil was very active in a number of community positions including two Charter Revision Commissions and Chairman of the RTC in the 70’s.  Mr. Sengle graduated from Lafayette College (Easton, PA) with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1973 after serving in the U.S. Navy.  He is retired having worked for various AT&T companies for 35 years, most recently from Lucent Technologies (now Alcatel-Lucent) in San Antonio.

Phil is also Co-Chairman of Carol Walter’s campaign committee (TEAM WALTER 2011) along with James Staunton.  Mrs. Walter is opposing Willie Fritz and Vin Cimino in the Nov. 8th municipal election.  When asked what his biggest challenge is Phil replied “creating harmony in a sometimes fractured GOP and beating the big spenders who have controlled Clinton for many years, specifically Mr. Fritz.”  “That will require teamwork and cohesion, only united will we stand”.
