School Board Approves Raises For Superintendent & Assistant Superintendent

It was a unanimous vote to give the two school leaders a three percent raise each in their base salaries.

 

At their meeting July 16, the Clinton Board of Education (BOE) voted unanimously to give the superintendent and the assistant superintendent of schools raises (increases) to their base salaries.

Board member Phil Williams initiated a motion seconded by Ethelene DiBona to provide for a three percent increase in Superintendent of School Jack Cross'  base salary.

Voting in favor were all BOE members which included Williams, DiBona,  Deborah Grass, Kim Campanaro, Lois Ruggiero, Peter Giannotti and Kim Buckley. No members voted against the motion or abstained.

For Maryann O’Donnell, assistant superintendent of schools, Cross made the recommendation of a three percent raise. Board member DiBona made a motion seconded by Lois Ruggiero to provide for a three percent increase to O'Donnell's base salary. All board members voted in favor of the motion.

The raises take effect July 1, 2012, the beginning of the fiscal year for the school budget.  No other changes were made.

For 2012-13 their salaries are:

  • Superintendent $152,858
  • Assistant Superintendent $137,671

For 2011-12 their salaries were:

  • Superintendent $148,406
  • Assistant Superintendent $133,661

For 2010-11 their salaries were:

  • Superintendent $145,496
  • Assistant Superintendent $131,040

Cross and O'Donnell both received a raise of two percent in 2011.

Board members mentioned how many people in the community do not recognize the work performed by the assistant superintendent which often takes the place of additional staff members such as a Director of Curriculum or Director of Pupil Services often seen in other school systems.

Chairman of the BOE Deborah Grass commented that the "team works well together" and that she looks forward to another positive year.
