Plan for new, consolidated operation will include Clinton, Killingworth and Westbrook

Lawmakers announced a newly revised and expanded plan for regional animal control operations on Monday.

According to a press release from the Connecticut State Democrats, lawmakers expect a previously approved $100,000 grant to be reallocated at Friday's State Bond Commission meeting.

Plans for a regional animal control district, including Clinton, Killingworth and Westbrook, rely on this grant.

“The expanded scope of this regional operation is perfectly aligned with statewide efforts to achieve economies of scale through collaboration and consolidation and in this case, I have every confidence the residents of Westbrook, Clinton, and Killingworth will be better served, for less money, as a result,” Senator Eileen M. Daily said in the press release.

“The unique demands of an animal control operation require adequate facilities to humanely feed, shelter, exercise, and treat any variety of species, and house its administrative office as well, and this grant will help the three towns underwrite the cost of a new shelter.”

The State Bond Commission is set to meet on Friday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m.
