New 'Clinton First' Political Party Announced; Vin Cimino Endorsed for First Selectman

The recently approved 'Clinton First Party,' a third political party option that will appear on the ballot this November at the municipal election, unanimously endorsed Vincent Cimino for First Selectman.

For the first time in history, Clinton voters will have a third political party option for the November municipal election. According to a press release sent to Patch by Pamela Fritz , the State of Connecticut approved the 'Clinton First Party' on July 23, which will present a slate of 10 candidates to Clinton voters.

According to the press release, "'Clinton First' is a collaboration of Republican, Democrat and Unaffiliated voters and presents the unprecedented opportunity for Clinton’s more than 4,000 unaffiliated voters to be placed on the ballot for town office without having to affiliate with a political party."

The party has unanimously endorsed Vincent Cimino for First Selectman. Cimino is a former Republican town chairman, who has served as chairman of the Historic Village District Commission and also served on the Economic Development Commission, the Conservation Commission and as Town Constable. He is a real estate developer and a graduate of the Quinnipiac University School of Business.

"The Clinton First Party has been established in response to residents' overall dissatisfaction with the two major party slates", Cimino says in the release. ”Townspeople are tired of the same old, same old — higher taxes, overspending, mismanaged poorly conceived capital projects and careless disregard for the town charter.  Nothing will ever improve until we replace the current administration with people who are committed to reducing the tax burden on residents, improving the town's economic environment, promoting responsible growth and solving the 30-year-old wastewater issue.  It is certainly time for a change."

The party is also endorsing Armando Casucci and Jeff Cashman for the Board of Selectman.

According to the release, "Casucci holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal justice and a Master's Degree in Public Administration and has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement." He is also a former Sergeant with the Clinton Police Department, Town Constable, and police union president and also served as a Police Chief in Vermont.  "Currently a law enforcement officer for the State of Connecticut, Casucci has also operated a small business in Clinton for many years," the press release also stated.

"Cashman has been a prominent Clinton business owner for more than 25 years and a recognized strong community supporter," the release goes on to say. "His recognitions include the Spirit of Clinton Award, the Best Foot Forward Award, and the Rotary Club's Paul Harris Award.  His civic contributions include the hayride for Christmas in Clinton and the antique lamp restorations for Post Office Square."

Other nominations by the party include:
  •         Board of Education - Timothy Wininger
  •         Board of Finance - Maurice "Kirk" Carr
  •         Planning & Zoning Commission - Jan Aiken
  •         Police Commission - Peggy Adler
  •         Zoning Board of Appeals - Carmine Patrizio
  •         Board of Assessment Appeals - Bernhard Weiss
  •         Board of Assessment Appeals Alternate - Pamela Fritz
"We are qualified and prepared to lead Clinton in a new, better direction", said Cimino at the conclusion of the release.
