Monday's Property Tax Sale Cancelled

All six accounts are paid up, so no tax sale and/or auction of properties will take place.

In early 2013, the Clinton Tax Collector's office advertised through Patch that it would be holding a property tax sale/public auction designed to satisfy delinquent taxes owed by several property owners. The auction would be run by the attorney for the tax office.

There were six accounts/properties totalling approximately $150,000 in outstanding taxes. The properties were owned by both corporations and individuals.

The sale was to happen this Monday, March 4 at town hall, but has been cancelled.

The tax sale was not intended to put anyone out of their home, said Tax Collector Melanie Yanus.

"It's to help them stay in their home and get their lender to set up escrow accounts," she noted.

The town has held similar sales of vacant properties, but it was more than 20 years ago. The town has a legal right to sell the properties and they are sold "as is."

The property owners received multiple notices of their delinquent taxes and of the upcoming auction, said Yanus.

As of March 1, all accounts are paid and settled.
