Willie Fritz Remains First Selectman of Clinton

In a vote of 2,015 to 1,622, Fritz defeats Walter by 393 votes.

It was a busy day at the polls in Clinton and the numbers show it: incumbent William "Willie" Fritz (D) won the office of first selectman over his challenger Carol Walter (R).

In a vote of 2,015 votes for Fritz and 1,622 votes for Walter, the Democratic incumbent won his fourth term in office by 393 votes.

Write-in candidate Vincent Cimino received 39 votes.

After the results were announced, Fritz stressed that his campaign was about "what we have done for the town and what we want to do in the future."

"The numbers show the work we have done for the past six years," he said. "Despite the negativity from others and how the CTA (Clinton Taxpayers Association) fought us along the way and distributed misinformation, the people gave us their support."

"I thank the voters in Clinton for their support," he said. "People showed that they wanted to support what we (he referred to himself, Dolly Mezzetti and Tom Vicino) have been doing."

The new five-member Board of Selectmen will be composed of First Selectman Willie Fritz (D), Dolly Mezzetti (D), Tom Vicino (D), Carol Walter (R) and John Giannotti (R).

Congratulations Willie! It was interesting to see Mrs. Walter after losing the election. She verbally assaulted Peggy Adler, Fay Abrahamsson and someone from the CVFD for causing her loss. I cannot believe the poor sportsmanship displayed this evening. Clinton dodged a bullet.

Congrats Willie!!!!!!!!!!! Walters will never be a winner! She always thinks she is right and she is not! A poor sport with a poor attitude like her should not even be on the board.

How sad. Watch the for sale signs go up on properties located south of Rt 1, not that anyone is going to buy them.

Maybe we need a neg or pos poll .which do we think will help move us foward , in a spirit of cooperation. Congrats to the winners, some were not my choices , but we were gifted with having had a voice .

Well said Jane. Congratulations to all who ran and it is time to move forward as one.

Congrats to Willie! And shame on anyone who would act like a poor sport and place blame on others for their loss.

Those votes for Willie Fritz were a huge THANK YOU from the town of Clinton for a job well done!

First of all ALR I was with carol after the election and not once did I see her "verbally assault" anyone. I can't believe that someone would stoop as low as you have to say something like that. She is an honorable citizen of this town and demands respect for what she has done. I don't see anyone else sticking their neck out to try and make this town a better place. Maybe next time you should run but I bet you don't have the guts. Carol Walter is not a poor sport by any means. You should be assashmend of what you said. People have done enough verbal abuse towards her and that should stop now! She deserves better than what she has received from people.

I feel he needs to lower taxes. It seems the current rates are hurting families and local businesses. Thanks.

Amen Jim!

I was at the town hall to hear the outcome of the election and did NOT witness Carol verbally assaulting anyone! I can't understand why you post such nonsense. Do you hate her that much or is she that much of a threat to whoever you are hiding behind that alias. Congratulations to everyone who put themselves out there, both winners and losers. I can only hope that "ALR" is not in a seat where such appauling behavior will be part of our town management.

JIM; well said. What office did ALR RUN FOR?
Liz November 10, 2011 at 03:53 AM
Sorry, Jim. You're wrong. I was standing four feet away from Peggy Adler when Carol stormed past us and "congratulated Ms Adler for a "job well done". Ms Adler looked around and said " I didn't make the phone call"! Anyway, let's all move on and hope the negative people who did get elected will stop throwing stones from the side lines and get down to serving the people of Clinton.

I think you're in the minority. Obviously, the election result proves the voters have money to burn.
