Gov. Malloy, Sen. Blumenthal Tour Clinton After Hurricane Sandy

The governor, senator and other officials walk the beach area of Clinton to see first-hand the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Governor Dannel Malloy, Senator Richard Blumenthal and other state and town officials toured Shore Road in Clinton the afternoon of October 31 to see, up close and personal, the damage brought on by Hurricane Sandy.

Also in attendance were State Senator Eileen Daily, State Representative Jim Crawford, Clinton First Selectman Willie Fritz, Clinton Selectman Tom Vicino, and Clinton Police Chief Todd Lawrie, among others.

Shore Road was a prime example of the strength of the hurricane which moved decks, sheds, and other structures across a lawn and across the street. There were piles and piles of sand and debris that had washed up in yards and on the roads. Some houses suffered much damage, others will require general cleanup.

It was a hurricane that spared hardly a surface.

I have mixed emotions about how this was handled originally. For those that don't remember, it wasRead More basically a secret deal, avoiding proper process. Anyway let's hope it ends well. Finally some economic development. On a technical note I believe the town still owns the Nod Road property with the developer getting a lease for $1 based on meeting certain conditions. I also believe that it was "sold" to residents with the assertion that the developer would remediate the pollution or abandon the property back to the town. Now we find the taxpayer will pay for remediation.
