Flooding & Some Outages - A Message From the First Selectman

Remember - the Jared Eliot Middle School is the Emergency Shelter now, not town hall.

Good afternoon this First Selectman Willie Fritz with a Hurricane Sandy update.

High tide was at 11:18am and we experienced some flooding in low areas and isolated outages in Town. What is problematic is that the tides have not really receded which is going to lead to major flooding at the next high tide which is at 11:48pm.

I urge you living south of Route 1 to consider leaving if you have not already, these areas may be inaccessible to emergency personnel as the conditions worsen. Be advised that per state and local requirements, emergency personnel will not be allowed to respond if winds are sustained at 50mph which is forecast for this evening.

If you are going to leave, do it now, the storm is strengthening and accelerating.
