Clinton's Finance Director Leaving Post

Kevin Kane, the town and Board of Education Finance Director for just under two years, has resigned.

It was a tough decision, said Clinton Finance Director Kevin Kane, but he recently resigned from his town position for a new job closer to his family and residence.

The New Britain resident, who commuted 35+ miles each way to work in Clinton, said he resigned "for family reasons" much of it due to the commute and being away from his youngest child.

He has taken a new position with the New Britain education system.

to replace outgoing finance director Rosemary Hanson, said it was a "tough decision" to leave the town, but has "no regrets" coming here.

"Clinton is a great place to be," said Kane. "I needed to be here more than they needed me."

Kane, who was the director of finance and treasurer for the town of Simsbury for many years, also served for two years as finance director in Branford.

Kane's role was a dual one: managing the finances for both the town of Clinton and the Board of Education.

Kane said his last day is November 27, and will begin his new position immediately. His position has been advertised, he said, and an internal search committee composed of Board of Education members, the superintendent and first selectman, among others, will begin interviewing qualified candidates soon.

His position is posted on the town's website:

Thank you for all you've done Kevin...you will be missed!

This is unfortunate. Everything I've heard about Kevin Kane is positive. I certainly wish Kevin the best. We will probably have to pay more to replace him, just as we did to replace Rosemary Hanson, but that is beside the point. I wonder if combining the education and municipal finance functions as we did was too much? In any case, Kevin will be missed.
