Connecticut Gets $75 Million for Home Heating Assistance

The state's congressional delegation says the money will help thousands of families stay warm this winter.

The following is a press release from the Connecticut Congressional Delegation:

The Connecticut Congressional Delegation today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released $2.9 billion nationally in Low-Income Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds, authorized by the FY2014 Continuing Resolution. Connecticut will receive a total of $75.09 million – 90 percent of which was made available to the state today.

“Thousands of Connecticut families will stay warm this winter thanks in part to LIHEAP,” the Connecticut Congressional Delegation said. “Unfortunately, due to sequestration, this vital program’s future funding remains under unnecessary threat. We applaud HHS for releasing the vast majority of this year’s LIHEAP funds, and we will continue to fight to preserve funding for this program, which helps more than 100,000 Connecticut residents annually.”

Connecticut families wishing to apply for LIHEAP funding may go to the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program website or call (800) 842-1508 to get more information about the program and application process.
