Clinton Republicans Announce Candidates

For The November Municipal Elections

The following is a message from the Clinton Republican Town Committee:

The Clinton Republican Town Committee (RTC) has announced its list of candidates for the November 8th election.  Topping the slate is current Selectman, Carol Walter, who now is seeking the position of First Selectman.  The candidates were selected at an RTC meeting held on July 21st at the Town Hall. 

Carol Walter is a long time resident who currently serves on the Board of Selectman, has previously served on the Capital Expenditures Commission, the Economic Development Commission, Municipal Operations Committee, numerous Board of Education committees and as a volunteer running Clinton’s 1630 House welcoming visitors to the town.  She has been a certified teacher who substituted in Clinton for many years, has worked at the Library and served as a tutor for homebound students.  Carol and her husband, Bill, own and operate Bill Walter & Sons Septic Service.  They have two adult sons, Dylan and Jason Walter.

Rounding out the slate for Board of Selectman are Kim Simoncini and John Giannotti.  Mrs. Simoncini, a life long resident, is currently a Police Commissioner.  She has also served as Vice Chair of Planning & Zoning, Registrar of Voters and as a member of the Capital Expenditures Commission.  Kim and her husband, Stephen, are parents of one daughter.  John Giannotti is another life long resident who has operated a business in Clinton for 23 years.  This is his first foray into elective politics.  John and his wife, Missy, are parents of two children.

For the Board of Education (BOE), the RTC has nominated Peter Giannotti, Phillip Williams and John Carbone.  Mr. Giannotti, a life long Clinton resident, is an Attorney in private practice, a former Planning & Zoning Commission member and is married with two children.  Mr. Williams is a current member of the BOE, has lived in town for many years and is President of Kenyon International, Inc.  Mr. Carbone is running to fill a vacancy on the BOE.  Mr. Carbone, who previously served on the BOE, is a Sergeant with the Clinton Police Department and is a former School Resource Officer.  John and his wife have three children.

Other nominees and the office they are seeking are: William Lofgren, Town Treasurer; Vincent Cimino, Police Commission; Phil Sengle, Police Commission; Ona Nejdl, Board of Assessment Appeals (to fill vacancy); James Staunton, Board of Assessment Appeals (alternate); Anselmo Delia, Planning & Zoning; Pamela Fritz, Planning & Zoning; Philip Sengle, Planning & Zoning (alternate); Maurice Carr Jr., Planning & Zoning (alternate to fill vacancy); George Doerrer, Zoning Board of Appeals; William Walter, Zoning Board of Appeals (to fill vacancy); James Staunton, Zoning Board of Appeals (alternate); Anthony Pinto, Zoning Board of Appeals (alternate to fill vacancy); George Eccleston, Constable; and Armando Casucci, Constable.

According to Mrs. Walter, “the release of the list was delayed a few days to be sure proper procedure was followed regarding a ZBA candidate who recently changed party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.  We did not want to file with the Town Clerk until that verification was completed.”
