Cast A Vote Against Hunger

The 15th Annual Food Drive Will Take Place All Day Tuesday, Election Day At Town Hall.

As voters walk or drive to Andrews Memorial Town Hall on Election Day, they will encounter a sign that reads, “Cast a Vote Against Hunger” as they enter the brick building to vote.

The sign is a gentle reminder to residents to not only vote, but to bring with them a non-perishable item of food for the needy.

Fifteen years ago, Clinton resident Sarah Borgnis came up with the idea of an annual food drive held on Election Day. After taking part in a mock election at her school, which included a food collection for the needy, she asked herself and her parents why a similar notion did not take place at the real elections.

Thus was the creation of “Cast a Vote Against Hunger,” the annual Election Day canned food drive in town.

All of the non-perishable food, and well as any monetary donations are given to the Shoreline Soup Pantry which has a grocery distribution center in Clinton.  Any money raised is used to assist families with their heating costs.

So please remember to bring with you a canned item or two (think Thanksgiving!) as you come to town hall and vote.

The food drive will take place during voting hours, 6am to 8pm.
