Campaign Notebook: Murphy Defends Against McMahon Ad

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Second District

Joseph Courtney (D): Courtney this week reaffirmed his support for Social Security in a Facebook posting:

"Happy 77th birthday, Social Security. I am committed to preserving Social Security's promise for future generations so seniors can retire with dignity."

Paul Formica (R): In his own posting Formica, who won the Republican primary this week to challenge Courtney, noted a new study showing low approval for Congress among voters and promising change if elected.

"We need a new Congressman who will put Main Street before K Street. I am that common sense leader who will be an independent voice for the Second Congressional District."

Fifth District

Elizabeth Esty (D): Esty has been endorsed by Ameriborn News

Andrew Roraback (R): Roraback posted photos from the primary on his Facebook page.

Senate

Democratic candidate Chris Murphy released a defense against Republican opponent Linda McMahon's current ad. Her ad accuses Murphy of being too absent in Congress during the 2008 financial crisis.

Third District

Rosa DeLauro (D): DeLauro supports the Mine Safety and Health Administration's efforts to protect coal miners, reports The Courier-Journal. "We should now let the Mine Safety and Health Administration move forward to better protect the nation's coal miners against debilitating and fatal black lung disease caused by exposure to coal dust," she said.

Wayne Winsley (R): Winsley was featured on "The Spotlight" on BCTV

Fourth District

Jim Himes (D): Along with Senator Richard Blumenthal, Himes advocated for President Obama's 'Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals' initiative on Wednesday, reports Danbury News-Times. The two joined others in support of the immigration program at Neighbors Link.

Steve Obsitnik (R): CBS New York reports Obsitnik's response to presidential candidate Mitt Romney's newly announced running mate Paul Ryan. Obsitnik expressed fears that the troubled economy and other important issues will be overlooked and not be the focus of the election.

Fifth District
