A Message From the First Selectman: "Schools Are Open On Monday"

"As of Sunday morning 92% of power had been restored in Clinton. On a lighter note for all those ghosts and goblins, Halloween will be rescheduled to this Wednesday the 7."

A message from the first selectman:

Good morning this is First Selectman Willie Fritz with an update on Hurricane Sandy.

As of Sunday morning 92% of power had been restored in Clinton. There were still just over 400 outages but with several crews still working that number will be drastically reduced by days-end with only single outs remaining.

If your neighbors have power and you don’t, you are a single out. Please call the CL&P hotline at 800-286-2000 and report it. FEMA has set up a disaster center at the Old Saybrook PD on 6 Custom Drive. Hours are Monday through Saturday 8am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm. It is suggested you call to register with FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 prior to going to the center.

As of 12:00pm today Town Hall will no longer be available for charging until Monday at 9am. After 2pm today showers will be discontinued at Eliot.

On a lighter note for all those ghosts and goblins, Halloween will be rescheduled to this Wednesday the 7. Be safe.

Clinton Schools will be open tomorrow per normal schedule and all Town services are fully operational including Voting on Tuesday at Town Hall for Election Day.

Once again I want to thank our residents for their patience, all the volunteers who worked tirelessly at our shelters and showers, our local businesses for their generosity especially Clinton ShopRite and most important out first responders, Police, Fire and DPW for all of their dedication to our residents. Be safe and Thankful Clinton.

Thank You

I thought truck or treat took the place of trick or treating v postponing it?

not everyone got to do the trunk or treat, the info about that event were a little uncoordinated so i think it's a good idea that the kids still get to go around their neighborhoods so the kids who missed the trunk or treat or didn't get much because people were leaving a half hour into the event and kids were still coming get to enjoy their Halloween too.

doesn't the Selectman realize that we have a storm coming on Wednesday?

Being a Clinton native and now raising our son here, I love our town and I am very proud of who represents us with their civic duties and more. I am extremely happy to read that the town has decided to reschedule Halloween for 11/7 because I was disappointed when I found out on Friday 11/2 that an event was held at Peter's on the 31st. We might be the only family in town without a cell phone so we had no access to any information that was coming through via e-mail or phone calls during the power outages, and it broke my heart telling my son we missed the party... Even if there is a rain storm coming on Wednesday I am glad to hear we're giving Halloween another chance...so again, I praise and give thanks for our town's efforts.

will this be cancelled because of the storm on Wednesday?

I would like to give a great big "Thank You" to Willie Fritz, the Board of Selectmen, the Department of Public Works, Town Emergency and Fire Crews, our Police Department, and all others who keep the citizens of Clinton informed and safe during "Sandy." Also to the Board of Education, who in conjunction with the Town, put on a very much appreciated Pasta Dinner at Eliot School. The citizens of Clinton should be proud that in a time of need, we always come together to help each other. Thanks again for keeping us all safe.

I can't imagine children trick or treating in rain and 40-60 mph wind sounds dangerous to me!!
