Two Men Arrested In Teeth Whitening Case

An Old Lyme man and a New Haven man were arrested for their roles in allegedly stealing Crest White Strips from one Walgreens and trying to "return" them for cash to another.

Two Connecticut men were arrested through the cooperation of the , state police and an Essex police officer for allegedly stealing items from one local Walgreens and attempting to return the stolen items for a cash refund to another store.

Matthew Wolosko, 33, of Dixwell Avenue in New Haven was arrested on January 31 and charged with larceny in the fifth and sixth degrees (shoplifting) and criminal attempt to commit larceny. Released on a $1,000 bond, his arraignment is scheduled for February 14 at Middletown Superior Court.

Robert W. Lacombe, 52, of Huntley Road in Old Lyme, was arrested February 1 and charged with providing a false statement and interfering with an officer. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled for arraignment in Middletown Superior Court on February 11.

The investigation of the alleged crimes dates back to last October when Wolosko entered the Deep River Walgreens and, while filmed on the store's security video, allegedly stole more than $800 worth of Crest White Strips and Prilosec (heartburn relief medication) products from the store.

On the same date, Wolosko attempted to return one package of the white strips to the for $55.

According to the Westbrook Troop 55 report, it states that with use of surveillance video footage from both stores and the Westbrook Mobil Mart, the man was identified as Wolosko.

Also during the investigation, a witness gave police the registration number of Wolosko's vehicle, a blue Ford van, as Wolosko exited the . The registration plate was linked to Lacombe, who was the owner on record.

According to police, Lacombe purposely misled the investigation and provided a false written statement.
