Staff Sergeant Don Mill and Corporal Kyle Strunjo, both of the Clinton Police Department, were hospitalized yesterday following a motorcycle accident. While Mill has been released, Strunjo is still in the hospital, but in stable condition.

A motorcycle accident occurred yesterday, Sunday, May 19, involving two Clinton Police Officers, Staff Sergeant Don Mill and Corporal Kyle Strunjo, while they were escorting the Special Olympics Charity Ride through several shoreline towns on their motorcycles.

Both Mill and Strunjo were hospitalized following the incident, according to Major John F. Carbone. Mill was treated and released, while Strunjo remains in the hospital, but in stable condition. There are no current predictions as to when either will be able to return to work.

"These are veteran officers," Carbone told Clinton Patch. "Both have done many escorts and have been on motorcycle patrol for years."

According to Carbone, the incident took place around noontime yesterday. Sgt. Dunn of the Clinton Police stated that the accident took place near the off ramp of of Rt. 9 southbound Exit 5, at the intersection of Rt. 80. Due to the severity of the incident, the event was stopped, and the ride did not continue.

Details concerning the circumstances of the incident and the nature of the officers' injuries are not yet available because the case is currently under investigation by the State Police.

The annual Charity Ride, which is sponsored by the Driftwood in Clinton, is a "45 mile escorted ride around the shoreline to benefit the Special Olympics" according to the event Facebook page. The ride goes through Clinton, Deep River and Killingworth.
