Lightning Strike Causes House Fire in Killingworth

Homeowners home, but not hurt in fire at 20 Cow Pen Hill Road in Killingworth.

On the same street where the Clinton Patch editor lives, a house on Cow Pen Hill in Killingworth caught fire, likely due to a lightning hit. 

Firefighters from Killingworth, Clinton and Madison are on the scene of a house fire at 20 Cow Pen Hill Road.

Owners Linda and Michael Board, who have lived in the home for many years, are fine. There were no children or pets in the home at the time of the fire.

According to scanner chatter, the fire broke out in the garage of the two-and-a-half story home. @GeorgeRoelofsen, a Killingworth volunteer firefighter and cameraman for News 8, tweeted the following at 8:37 a.m.: Structure Fire, Killingworth...24 Cow Pen Hill Rd. Lightning strike. First arriving unit reports flames showing.

Mutual aid from Haddam and North Madison has been called in to help. There are no reports of injuries and it has not been confirmed that the cause of the fire was a lightning strike.
