Report: Clinton Firefighters Aid in Search for Missing Man in Connecticut River

Firefighters from Clinton were involved in the search for a 58-year-old man who fell into the CT River Sunday night, the Old Saybrook Fire Department tells The Hartford Courant.

According to the DEEP, the missing man who fell into the CT River Sunday night is Yuri Kirpichev, 51, of West Springfield, Massachusetts.  Kirpichev is reported to have gone into the Connecticut River after attempting to retrieve his fishing pole that had fallen into the water.  There were three other people on the boat with Kirpichev. They were safely brought to shore by emergency personnel.

According to The Hartford Courant, the search for a 58-year-old man continues today after he fell into the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook Sunday night to retrieve his fishing pole.

The Courant reports that that the US Coast Guard has a crew of at least a dozen searching the area where the river flows into the Long Island Sound. The search is by boat and helicopter, they report. 

The Courant reports the call for a missing person came in around 8:15 PM Sunday and the search was still going on as of 10:45 PM Sunday. Old Saybrook Fire Chief John Dunn told The Hartford Courant that local fire departments had nine boats on the water until 11:15 PM. 

Firefighters from Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, Westbrook, Clinton and Essex were involved in the search, as were firefighters from Haddam.

According to NBC News, "a massive water search is expected and sonar equipment will be used" today.
