Police: Car Stolen, Others Broken Into Along Commerce Street

Land Rover with the keys in it was stolen, unlocked cars were emptied of wallets, electronics and more. Lock your cars!

One car was stolen and a number of others were emptied of valuables overnight in the Commerce Street area, Clinton police said Friday in a press release.

"The suspects are targeting unlocked motor vehicles parked in dimly lit driveways," wrote Det/Sgt. Joseph Flynn. "Items stolen are wallets, cash, loose coins, small electronics devices (GPS, iPods, iPhones, etc…) and credit cards that have been left unsecured in the passenger compartments of the vehicles."

Flynn said this is the second string of multiple car burglaries within a two-week period. The first was also in a closely knit neighborhood, with similar manner of criminal operation, culminating in one of the victim's cars being stolen.

The car that was stolen had the keys in it, police said. Anyone seeing a dark blue Land Rover SUV with CT registration plate 481-TRJ or anyone with any information please contact Ofc. Matthew Reed at the Clinton Police Department at 860-669-0451.

I have mixed emotions about how this was handled originally. For those that don't remember, it wasRead More basically a secret deal, avoiding proper process. Anyway let's hope it ends well. Finally some economic development. On a technical note I believe the town still owns the Nod Road property with the developer getting a lease for $1 based on meeting certain conditions. I also believe that it was "sold" to residents with the assertion that the developer would remediate the pollution or abandon the property back to the town. Now we find the taxpayer will pay for remediation.
