Officer Recognized By MADD For Good Work

Officer Allyson Skeens of the Clinton Police Department was recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for her DUI enforcement efforts last year.

Earlier this month, Officer Allyson Skeens of the Clinton Police Department was recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for her DUI enforcement efforts during 2010.

At an awards ceremony at Anthony’s in East Haven celebrating MADD’s Connecticut Chapter’s 25th year of Law Enforcement Recognition, Officer Skeens was among scores of local, state and university officers recognized for their “Outstanding Contributions to Eliminate Drunk Driving During the Past Year.”

Also attending the ceremony to witness Officer Skeens receive her award were Sgt. John Carbone, the department’s DUI Instructor and Major John Santry, the department’s Patrol Commander.

During the last Fiscal Year, July 2009 through June 2010, the Clinton Police Department made 78 DUI arrests.

The Connecticut MADD was established in 1980 for the purpose of providing “aid to the victims of crimes performed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to aid the families of such victims and to increase public awareness of the problem of drinking and drugged driving.”

MADD advocates for strict DUI enforcement, public education and awareness, legislation (most recently the requirement for a starter Interlock system for repeat DUI offenders) and victim services.
