Halloween Safety Tips From The Clinton Police Department

A fun holiday needs to be a safe one, too

The would like to remind everyone of a few basic safety tips in order to have safe, happy and enjoyable Halloween celebration.

It is suggested that costumes or outer clothing garments consist of a non-flammable material, bright visible colors, or be highly reflectorized, in order to be seen clearly in the dark. Also, it is recommended that anyone out walking at night also carry a hand held flashlight for added visibility, and if possible use illuminating devices that attach to clothing.

Trick or treaters should always be accompanied by a responsible adult, and it is recommended that Trick or treaters remain in larger groups if possible.

State Law requires that all pedestrians utilize sidewalks where available, but if you must walk on the street please walk along the outside shoulder of the road as you face traffic. Also when crossing the road from one side to another, it should be done so on ninety degree angles, preferably at an intersection.

Please instruct your children not to consume any candy until they have returned home and a parent or responsible adult has physically inspected all candy for any signs of tampering. Any candy found to be tampered with should not be eaten, and the local police should be called immediately.

All motor vehicle operators are urged to keep in mind the dramatic increase in pedestrian traffic on Halloween night, and are urged to please exercise extreme caution when driving.

The Clinton Police will have on extra patrols out on Halloween night to monitor traffic to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween celebration.
