Clinton Woman Charged With Robberies of Three Area Banks; Could Be More

Susan Braig, 29, of 55 Cream Pot Road in Clinton, is facing three counts of first degree robbery, three counts of third degree larceny and three counts of second degree threatening.

On Dec. 6, 2012, state police say Braig walked into the Liberty Bank on Main Street in Durham wearing a wig, mustache and hat and robbed the bank. She's accused of pulling off similar heists at the TD Bank in Killingworth in November and the First Niagra Bank in Essex in January.

According to state police, upon reviewing the banks surveillance videos it became apparent that all three banks were robbed by the same individual – a female disguising herself to look like a male.

In addition, state police in East Lyme believe Braig is responsible for two bank robberies there and police in Hardwick, Vermont Police are also investigating a bank robbery in their town with the same female suspect.   

Through witness interviews, information was developed that led investigators to believe that the suspect in the bank robberies was driving a red station wagon type vehicle with Vermont registration plates . The information was passed along to surrounding local shoreline police departments.

Eventually, an Old Lyme Constable spotted a vehicle matching the description in the town of Old Lyme which led investigators to Braig, who at the time, according to police, was living at 8 Sterling Hill Road in Lyme, CT.

Braig turned herself in this morning at 7 a.m. and her bond was set at $450,000. 

Authorities say additional arrest warrants against her are pending.
