Clinton PD Motorcycles Deemed Totaled From May Accident

After inspections, both Clinton Police Harley Davidson motorcycles have been deemed totaled from an accident back in May. Chief Lawrie still hopes the program can continue at the department in the future.

A May 20 accident that hospitalized two Clinton Police Officers, has also destroyed the Department's two Harley Davidson motorcycles. The bikes, which spent 10 days at Harley Davidson in Hartford earlier this month, have been deemed totaled by the insurance company and the Harley dealership.

The matter was discussed at the July Police Commissioners meeting, and Police said that the department would subsequently pick up the bikes and remove the department installed equipment, such as radios, lights, etc.

The town will receive approximately $14,000 minus a $1,000 deductible for each motorcycle police said in the meeting. This amount will go into the town’s general fund.

Chief Todd Lawrie was hopeful that the motorcycle program would still continue in town.

"The insurance money will go back to the town of Clinton's general fund, but I hope to ask for it back to get another bike," Lawrie  said at the meeting. "I support the program and believe it is a viable program. We as a town and a department get a lot from it, and the officers get a lot out of it."
