Chester Man, 29, Arrested in Hudson, New York Area Burglary

Store owner in Liberty, NY awakens to hear adjacent store being allegedly burglarized and holds suspect until state police arrive.

Destin Kelly, 29, of Chester was arrested Sept. 29 at 12am for an alleged burglary in New York.

State Police in Liberty, New York, responded to a reported burglary at the Swan Lake Country Store located on Briscoe Road in Swan Lake. 

Liberty is a town located about 55 miles west of Poughkeepsie, New York.

An investigation determined that the store’s owner had been awoken by noises coming from the store attached to his residence.  Upon investigating the noises, the store owner located and apprehended Kelly as he was allegedly attempting to flee with stolen property. 

Kelly was held by the store owner until the state police arrived.  Kelly was charged with burglary in the second degree and criminal mischief in the third degree.  He was arraigned in Liberty Town Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
