Proposed Clinton Town Beach Dog Park Meeting

The Park and Recreation Com mission and DPW held an open forum last night for all interested in airing their views on the proposed dog park at the Town Beach.  There were about 35 people present and Joe Schettino, Chairman of P&R, allowed us all to speak and we did.  Most everyone was against a dog park at the beach for a variety of reasons.  As the meeting progresses the Chair asked us how we felt about banning dogs from the beach...period.  No one really was in favor a of a ban...but many were in favor of a seasonal ban say from mid June to mid September....summertime!  The P&R had been to the Board of Selectmen in the past to propose a ban of some sort.  The chair really want to reach out to those of us there...to see if there was indeed support for a summertime ban.  The whole point behind this proposed dog park and possible ban of some sort is that too many dog owners...NOT ALL DOG OWNERS...but many allow their dogs to run free on the beach when others are there...some people are afraid of dogs...also dogs are never permitted on the sandy part of the beach!  There are also dog owners who do not pick up after their pets.  And that is a daily thing.  Disgusting you say...ask the DPW and P&R crews that have to go day after day and pick this stuff up.  Too bad a few bad apples...spoil it for everyone.  SO let's hear from all of you...would you be in favor of:  no ban ever?  a summertime ban?  yearlong ban?  This is our town and our voices...let them be heard!
