On Tonight: Teachers Rock, Jurassic Park and Gangsters: America's Most Evil

TGIF. Here's a look at what's on.

Friday, Aug. 17

Dirk Langeveld is filling in for Elissa Bass while she is on vacation. She will resume this column on Aug. 28.

Teachers Rock, 8 p.m., CBS

A musical tribute to U.S. educators with performers such as Carrie Underwood, Dirks Bentley, fun., and Josh Groban as well as school memories from Meryl Streep, LL Cool J, Jack Black, and more. And scenes from the upcoming film Won’t Back Down. And, I don’t know, a tiger.

Jurassic Park, 8 p.m., BBC America

I’m not sure what this is doing on BBC America. It’s because of Richard Attenborough, isn’t it? And that scene where he gets through the dinosaur uprising by eating ice cream? It’s like he’s saying, “I’m British, I fought Jerry in the RAF, and I’m not about to let these puffed-up lizards get me all hacked off.”

Gangsters: America’s Most Evil, 10 p.m., Bio

Tonight: Johnny Eng, a.k.a. “Machine Gun Johnny.” I find it amusing that he’s going to be forever paired in search engine results with the assumption that you were looking for Johnny English, Rowan Atkinson’s bumbling secret agent.
