Clinton Dancer Captures Third DMA Regional Title

Kaitlyn Maurais of Clinton was crowned Teen Miss Dance of Connecticut 2014 at the Dance Teachers Club of CT’s regional competition in East Haven on February 28.  Dance Teachers Club of Connecticut is the local chapter of Dance Masters of America, an international organization of dance educators. 

 Miss Maurais is an eighth grader at Clinton’s Jared Eliot Middle School and dances at Back Stage Dance Center in Killingworth.  Kaitlyn has been a student at BSDC since the young age of two.  Many years of dance training and hard work resulted in the tap dancer’s recent title win with her solo, “Blackbird”, choreographed by Caity Steele.  Kaitlyn Maurais also took home Dance Master’s Junior Miss Dance of CT titles in 2010 and 2012.

 In July, Maurais will move on to compete for the Teen Miss Dance of America title at the DMA national convention in Kissimmee, Florida.  Kaitlyn will attend Nationals this summer with fellow Back Stage 2014 DMA title winners, Abbey Stackpole - Miss Dance of CT, Riley Bauer - Junior Miss Dance of CT, and Sarah Petrie - Petite Miss Dance of CT.
