Obituary: Virginia Mae McAvinney

Today's Obituary

 

OVID/ROMULUS-Virginia Mae (Gambee) McAvinney, age 86, of Old Saybrook, CT, entered the glory of eternity with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 15, 2012. The family will receive friends at the Finger Lakes Baptist Church, 1000 Yale Station Road, MacDougall, from Noon to 1:00pm on Saturday, December 1, 2012. Memorial service will follow at 1:00pm, officiated by Rev. Joseph C. McAvinney, burial will be at Mount Green Cemetery in Romulus.

Virginia was born in Seneca Falls, graduated from Romulus Central School and Auburn Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing as an Army Cadet Nurse.  The delight of her life was faith in her Lord Jesus Christ (leading in bible studies, Sunday School, Good News Club and Youth for Christ) and devotion to her family, nurturing their hopes, dreams, challenges and accomplishments.  She was a long term resident of Cayuga, NY and then Clinton, CT.  Following her husband’s retirement, they moved to Clermont, FL. After the death of her husband, William J. McAvinney Jr. in 1998, she moved back to Clinton, CT.

She is survived by her sons, William J. III (Virginia) of Fredricksburg, VA and the Rev. Joseph C. (Diane) of Philadelphia, PA; daughters, Margaret (Ronald) Casbohm of St. Louis, MO, Cathleen (Richard) Herman of Ontario, NY and Patricia (Jeffrey) Cashman of Clinton, CT; grandchildren, Timothy (Keri) Casbohm, Rebecca (Greg) Baughman, Jileen, Katrina, Stephanie and Matthew (Megan) Herman, Julia (Lamar) Evans, Melissa (Curtis) Farrington, Susannah (James) Williams, Christiana (Tyler) Cooper, Erin McAvinney, Deborah (John) Crosley, Shaun (Juliette) McAvinney and Heather Cashman; great-grandchildren, Evan, Madisyn and Zachary Casbohm, William and Calvin Baughman, James Williams, Russell, Shayla and Elliott Crosley, Conner, Natalie and Katherine McAvinney, Reese Herman. Virginia was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Millard, Wellington, Norman, Teddy, Margaret (Woodard), Fanny (Miller), and Mary (Somerville) Gambee.
