Former Clinton Police Officer Passes Away at 58

Michael Curry Scully, a graduate of The Morgan School and a former Police Officer in Clinton, passed away June 1, 2013, at the age of 58.

The following obituary was provided by Jane Scully Welch, Michael's older sister:

Michael Curry Scully died on June 1, 2013 surrounded by his wonderful family. He left us way before his time and his many future plans will remain unfulfilled. Mike loved his life, his family and his many friends.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Joanne Fleck Scully, his son Matt Scully, daughter Erin Scully and her fiancé Jeff Baker and their youngest Megan Curry Scully. Mike was born 5/25/55 to the late William and Marge Scully and grew up in Clinton, Connecticut. He was lucky enough to have 3 brothers and 2 sisters, all older and wiser. Bill, Bob, Kathy, Peter and Jane….Scully’s all...he was the baby of our family and a joy to each of us!

Mike graduated from The Morgan School, entered the US Navy and then went on to receive degrees from UCONN and URI. He began his career in law enforcement, following in the footsteps of his father and oldest brother, as a Police Officer in Clinton. There he was legendary for his not so politically correct cartoons about office life... He then decided to take the leap and try for the next step...the FBI. He made it and off to Quantico he went. He was stationed in Providence .

The FBI took him all over the world, whether it be to teach or to investigate as an integral part of the ERT unit he traveled to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Iraq, Jordan, Uzbekistan and grand stories from his brother special agents who traveled with him have been told. For those of you who remember the X- Files.....he was the real Agent Scully.

In country he worked on many events, the Atlanta and Salt Lake City Olympics, the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, TWA 800 disaster and the loss of Egypt Air off the coast of Rhode Island.

Mike loved the Miami Dolphins and the Boston Red Sox, his Irish heritage, scuba diving, swimming in Narragansett Bay, Florida and Long Island Sound, golf, chowda, running, teaching Terrorism 101 at Salve Regina , spring training and his many many friends and family...but most especially he loved life and his wife and their kids (and their cats) He will be remembered for ever in the hearts of those of us lucky enough to have known him. Beannacht De leat.
