Repurpose an Old Toy

Create a project for a rainy day and repurpose an old toy.

It has been a rainy week here in Clinton, Connecticut. My little one and I decided that our project for today would be to repurpose one of our old toys.  When we visited the Children's Museum of Southern Connecticut a few weeks ago we adored their new renovations, specifically the "indoor day at the beach."  The ice cream cart was high on the list of "cool" things.

Our mission . . . change our Fisher Price shopping carriage into an ice cream cart.  We used foam core board for the sides and top, but card board shipping boxes or gift boxes would do the trick.  White duct tape was using to secure the sides to the existing carriage and the new sides of the cart.  We used ribbon that I had picked up from a tag sale as the handles for the cooler door compartments.

My daughters decorated the sides of the cart with their drawings and stickers as their menu items.  I used a poster marker to write "ice-cream" on the front and back.  Voila our new ice cream cart.  They have been using their Melissa and Doug ice cream set, and toy cookies and cupcakes to sell from their cart.  It should keep them busy during the next few rainy days.

Why buy another toy when you can have fun, be creative, recycle and make a new one at home??
