Self Check at The Henry Carter Hull Library

You can now check out your own materials at the Henry Carter Hull Library.

In 2009, when the Henry Carter Hull Library received a generous bequest from former library board member Bev Fagan, the library built its new circulation desk and saved a spot to someday be able to offer patrons the ability to check out their own materials.

At first technology held us back but recently we were able to work with our software company to enable library patrons to use a self check system at the library.

The purpose of this self check system is twofold. One is speed. Some days there can be long lines to check out materials and self check enables folks to speed through and check out themselves. The second and more important purpose is it’s confidential. No staff or other patron sees the items being checked out.

Several requirements are necessary to take advantage of self check at the library. Library patrons must have a valid library card and must bring it with them to the library. Also, their library card must be in good standing, meaning the library card must be current, with no fines or overdue items.

Library staff are always nearby to help with any transaction but we are thrilled to be able to offer this convenience to our card holders. Next time you’re in, try it out or ask a staff member for a quick orientation.
