Library Snapshot Day in Connecticut

CT Libraries all over the state participated in Snapshot Day to provide a peek at what's going on in libraries on a typical day.

As part of National Library Week, libraries all over Connecticut took part in "Snapshot Day "– a day of collecting information to capture the impact that Connecticut libraries have on their communities on a typical day. Ninety CT Libraries participated on April 13th and it was amazing to see that 55,862 people visited CT libraries that day and took out over 56,000 items! There were 717 new library cards issued and over 6,000 reference questions answered in CT on that Wednesday.

Right here at the Henry  Carter Hull Library we had 692 visits with a total of 925 items circulating on Snapshot Day. Our library is busier than it has ever been. Lots of folks of all ages are still taking out books and magazines but many more are here to use computers, get help with job searching and to use our meeting space. We logged in 81 computer sessions and hosted over 90 folks attending library programs that day.

The role of the 21st century library is evolving in Clinton and the HCH library has assumed the unofficial role of our town's community center. All across the state, libraries are the cornerstones of their communities, places were people come together to visit, learn and share ideas and our results from "Snapshot Day" support that theory.
