Branford Resident Wins $1M Powerball Prize

Last Saturday’s monumental Powerball® drawing gave CT Lottery players yet one more reason to celebrate—it further increased CT’s ever growing list of lottery millionaires.

Paul Castiglione of Branford became CT’s newest “Match 5” prize winner, increasing the total number of lucky wins to 17 since the new Powerball game began on January 15, 2012—13 worth $1,000,000, plus another 4 that were Power Played® for the game’s $2,000,000 prize.”

The winning Powerball numbers drawn on May 18 were 10 - 13 - 14 - 22 - 52 the Powerball number was 11.  In total, 127,320 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.

Castiglione’s Powerball “Quick Pick” ticket matched the first 5 numbers drawn for the game’s $1,000,000 prize.  Castiglione, who claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill today, received a check for $683,000 (value after taxes).

A lottery retailer since 2008, Evans Branford Mobil, located at 108 N. Main Street in Branford, will receive a $1,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling Castiglione his winning ticket.

Winning tickets must be claimed within 180-days of the drawing date before the prize expires.  CT Lottery officials encourage all players to please check their tickets online at ctlottery.org, by scanning in a lottery Ticket Checker, or at any lottery retailer location.

The overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 31.8 based on a $2.00 play. Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 175,223,510 million.
