Decorating Dorm Rooms

Get some tips for decorating dorm rooms! j

As you are getting ready to head off to college, or helping someone get ready!, don't forget that designing the dorm room is important!  Right now most of you have been busy purchasing clothing, microwaves, computers, etc and it can be a bit daunting to think about decorating with all the necessary purchases you are making. However, with a bit of planning you can have the dorm room look great. Remember that this is for most kids the first time they are away from home. A room that they can feel relaxed in and have that "home away from home" is a big help in the adjustment to college!

Here are some things to think about! First - do NOT purchase a bedspread. It will never be used.  Look at some fun duvet covers that might have a chance of being pulled up over an unmade bed. Next, think pillows! I like some bigger pillows so that they can be tossed on the floor for extra seating when friends come or if you want to study on the floor. Don't forget an area rug!!! Dorm room floors are traditionally that cold, commercial tile and very uninviting! Lighting is a must - there are some really good options out there and you need them for next to the bed and on the desk (if you think you will study there!). Storage is a must - there are some great storage containers in wonderful prints and colors that will fit under the bed. How about a large garbage can that you paint? Use your imagination and have fun with it.

I have found you can get some good deals - especially with coupons - at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Also, check Craigs list as you might find someone who has graduated and they are getting rid of their dorm items. Have fun and make that room special! j

I have mixed emotions about how this was handled originally. For those that don't remember, it wasRead More basically a secret deal, avoiding proper process. Anyway let's hope it ends well. Finally some economic development. On a technical note I believe the town still owns the Nod Road property with the developer getting a lease for $1 based on meeting certain conditions. I also believe that it was "sold" to residents with the assertion that the developer would remediate the pollution or abandon the property back to the town. Now we find the taxpayer will pay for remediation.
