World Cafe - a night of conversation that parents can sink their teeth into

Hosted by The First Selectman's Task Force on Substance Abuse, the World Cafe is a chance for parents in Clinton to come together to explore important questions related to the lives of young people. In small groups, adults can share their ideas on to peer pressure, underage drinking, and drug-use rules and consequences. Our discussions will start at 7:00pm and last until around 8:30pm. There will be refreshments available throughout the night. On-site babysitting will be provided by the Morgan Peer Advocates and door prizes will be given away!

There are three thought-provoking questions on our menu for the evening:

appetizer : We know that 38% of students in Clinton have friends who drink alcohol. What type of peer pressure do you think kids face related to using drugs? What type of pressures do parents face? How do you think that can be dealt with or changed?

entrée : Are you aware that it is illegal to have underage drinking in your home? What are your feelings about this law and how do you think it impacts your family and our community?

dessert : What are some ways you prevent underage drinking and drug use in your household? Are there certain rules that have worked for you or for people you know?
